Dexter: 5 Ways To Bring It To A Satisfying Conclusion

3. Dexter Needs To Sort Out His Daddy Issues

Dexter Season 4 The ending of Series 2 has become potentially one of my least favourite season finale€™s in television history (and I watched Series 1 of Heroes) simply because it, and later series, completely threw away Dexter€™s development here. A lot of Series 2 was uncovering and revealing things about his father, he had been on a path of learning that Harry wasn€™t honest with him, wasn€™t responsible and had done Dexter a disservice by telling him that a serial killer is all he could be. Dexter acknowledges at the end of Series 2 that he doesn€™t need Harry€™s rules, he€™s a free man he can€Continue being a serial killer. WHAT?! I just spent 24 hours of television witnessing reasons why trusting Harry€™s word is ridiculous and you€™re going to continue being the person he told you to be? Eurgh€ Couple this miserable, show dragging, finale with the fact Harry now spends most of the show as a voice in Dexter€™s ear reinforcing discouraging messages about how awful a person Dexter is you have some serious daddy issues that have been there 5 series longer than they needed to be. One of the clinical aspects that needs to be resolved in Dexter is the relationship with his father. While the voice in Dexter€™s ear is really just a part of him that helps out with analyzing situations and reinforcing how terribly everything is going. A piece of evidence or something from their past, or Dexter maybe re-evaluating aspects of his relationship with Harry would help put things to bed at last, whilst allowing the opportunity for Dexter to either patch things up or remove his father€™s words from him. Whichever ties a nicer bow.
