Dexter: 5 Ways To Bring It To A Satisfying Conclusion

2. Dexter Has To Fight His Dark Passenger

dexter501 A long standing issue I€™ve had with Dexter is the fact he prioritizes his Dark Passenger over everything else; and that has led to some pretty blummin tragic consequences. His dad committed suicide because of what Dexter had become, Rita was murdered, his son was almost sacrificed for religious reasons, it ruined his relationship with Lumen and has almost destroyed Debra by making her choose between him and her job: culminating in the season 7 finale where she shoots La Guerta. It€™s long been my opinion that Dexter is doing himself a disservice by continuing to indulge his dark passenger, and the to conclude the show Dexter should in fact try to remove that aspect of himself to help the more human side of him be free. Especially now after Debra€™s struggle with this part of him and the fact Hannah has targeted her as a potential victim he should begin wrestling this part of him down. Whether it€™s done by him making the conscious decision to stop killing people or is done in a €˜Dexter hunts serial killer who turns out to be himself after he loses his identity€™ way is debateable. I€™d prefer the second option because the show becomes a quest for identity and it means the series can end on the line €˜I€™m Dexter€™ but I€™m a hopeless romantic like that. Though this was almost addressed in the previous series where he started to look at his defining of a part of himself as a €˜dark passenger€™ a smokescreen for his own actions I feel it needs to go deeper than this. While this has helped continue making good television, practicality dictates Dexter should become disillusioned with the effect this is having on his life and it would make for a solid ending to the show to see him finally shed off the part of his personality which has ruined his life.
