The joy of getting a subscription to Disney Plus is not only getting the things you love at a low monthly cost, but it gives you the opportunity to watch what you may have previously had no interest in.

1994's Lion King is a masterpiece of traditional animation and remains Disney's highest grossing feature of the format. The remake 15 years later is currently Disney's highest grossing film ever not to have the word "Avengers" attached to it. So it's interesting to check out both of the films and compare how much is different and what's the same.

This makes the Lion King a particularly interesting compare-and-contrast film, considering how little is different between the two films, and just how entertaining the original was and continues to be to this day. The remake takes all the charm and the central moral of the story, and replaces it with admittedly impressive looking CGI animals and a whole lot of padding.

Looking at the two, it make you wonder why Disney bothered remaking it when so little has changed. There's two ways you can watch these: Start with the original and then the remake to see how the technology has changed, or you can start with the remake and wash that terrible taste out with the superior classic.
