Doctor Who: 10 More Memorable Episodes (And The Lessons They Leave Behind)

8. The Lodger

The Tardis lands. The Doctor gets spat out. The Tardis takes off, with Amy inside, and leaves him trapped on Earth; he hands over a paper bag of cash and becomes a lodger. Alien kidnappings, strange rot on the ceiling, and Amy, in distress, ricocheting around space in the Tardis, these are the background noises of the episode. For me, it's about Craig and Sophie being in love but being too scared to admit it and seeing the Doctor pretend to be an ordinary bloke. He has fun hanging out at the flat, playing football, being one of the lads, he even dabbles in working at a call center, in between playing matchmaker! He flips Craig's life upside down in the space of 3 days, and is about to get kicked out the flat until he reveals who he really is. Craig's love for the Doctor and Sophie saves the day. I loved seeing the Doctor, whose norm is mad adventures through time and space, to have fun with the day-to-day stuff that most of us take for granted and gain a good mate along the way. The Lesson: Take time to appreciate the little things in life - going down the pub with your mates, watching the football, walking on the beach, having a great pizza, reading a good book, hearing your favorite song, finding a new love, falling in love. You never know when things will change. Have fun. Enjoy the moment.
