3. Closing Time
The Doctor knows he has to die and is putting it off as long as possible. He finds himself in London with his old mate, Craig, who's now a father to a wee boy and feels hopeless as a dad. Sophie, his wife, has taken off for the weekend to allow Craig bonding time with his son. The Doctor stops by for a social call and gets involved with mysterious happenings at the local department store. He gets a job working in the shop, talks baby, finds a new pal in Alfie, and helps Craig uncover his fatherly instincts. Cybermen are attacking London. The Doctor is on his own to fight them; Craig insists on helping him. It is Craig's love for his son that defeats the Cybermen. I love the episodes where the Doctor plays at being human; this one is no exception - so funny. This is his last harrah before he goes off to die the next day; he chooses time with friends over marvelous wonders in the universe.
The Lesson: Trust your friends to have your back. No matter how strong and independent you are, sometimes, you can't do it alone. It's always good to have someone to laugh and play with. Old friends are the best; they've seen you at your maddest, nothing you can say, or do, will shock them or scare them off. I love people, that you haven't seen for ages, that you can call up and it's like no time has passed, you pick up exactly where you left off. And set off of grand new adventures.
