Doctor Who: 10 Moments Of Mind-Blowing Unexpected Cruelty From The Doctor

10. Whatever Happened In The Gamma Forests

Sometimes what we don't see onscreen tells us a lot more than what we do see. Until "The Day of the Doctor," fans were left with an understanding that the Doctor had left Gallifrey to burn, destroying his own people. A few lines of dialogue from "A Good Man Goes to War" offers another implied, dark deed of the Doctor's. Though we are not told exactly what happened in the Gamma Forests, we do know there was some sort of imminent danger, as Lorna recalls a moment with the Doctor in which he tells her to run. We also know that Lorna's encounter with the Doctor would lead her to joining the clerics for an opportunity to meet him again. It's when Rory tells her that the Doctor is not a warrior that she questions why he's called "the Doctor." This implies the Doctor did something so violent and warrior-like that the people of the Gamma Forests dubbed our protagonist the paragon of "warrior." To these people, the Doctor is "THE Warrior," one worth joining an army just to meet. Whatever he did, it must have been impressive, and it must have been violent. Since we have yet to see this occur, it might be cheap to consider it one of his most cruel moments, but it certainly doesn't allot for many different interpretations.

I'm a student at NCSU. Every now and then I watch Doctor Who. Every now and then I write something.
