Doctor Who: 10 Reasons David Bradley Should Star In More First Doctor Adventures

7. The Other

There's a great chunk of the so-called 'Cartmel Masterplan' which David Bradley could help solve. Many a hint was dropped during the Seventh Doctor's era that the man with the spoons was so much more than just another Time Lord, and Bradders could go a long way to lifting the shroud. A glance at the early years of Gallifrey itself reveals that the trio of Omega, Rassilon and the Other was largely responsible for the Time Lords as we know them. Driving the Pythia and her cult as well as the rule of magic and mysticism off the planet in favour of cold hard logic and science, they could be seen as the founders and innovators of modern Gallifreyan society. And it all really took off during what's recorded as 'The Age Of Rassilon'. Which is where Mr Bradley could come in depending on just how ambitious writers were to explore the early years. The novels ' The Ancestor Cell' and 'The Infinity Doctors' explain it all in more detail... All that's really known of The Other is that he was active during the 'Dark Times' on his home planet. No images or records of his achievements exist. But he did have some sort of intrinsic bond with the Hand of Omega, which is said to have recognised him in his regenerated form as the First Doctor. The Seventh of course retrieves it from a London funeral parlour in 'Remembrance Of The Daleks'. So there's potentially scope to explore what he was doing as The Other before he threw himself into the Looms and emerged as the Doctor. Ambitious maybe but potentially very interesting indeed!
