Doctor Who: 10 Reasons Why We Need A War Doctor Spin-Off
6. The Fall Of Alien Civilisations
It may be tempting to assume that a War Doctor spin-off would exclusively feature Time Lords and Daleks in the heat of battle, but this would not be the case. Many, many more planets and races were affected by the Time War. The first creature the Doctor encountered in NuWho was the Nestene Consciousness, protected by its Autons. The Nestene Consciousness was quick to blame the Doctor for the loss of its home planet, Polymos. From then on, more and more creatures and planets have been shown as victims of the Time War - the Zygon and Gelth being some of the others. The buccaneering War Doctor would not be limited to fighting on Gallifrey in a series set during the Time War, he would still have a great deal of exposure to other planets and races who were unfortunate enough to cross paths with the fighting. Seeing the Doctor's involvement in the fall of other civilisations would add more weight to the modern Doctor's distaste for violence and fighting. The series would also bring some context to the struggles of war-damaged races that the Doctor has met since the TV series was revived in 2005.
My life is an odd blend of the real and surreal. By day I study law but by night I live my life vicariously through science fiction and fantasy, as a Whovian, gamer and writer.
