5. She Shaved Her Hair Off

Remember that wig Karen was sporting when she came back to Doctor Who last Christmas? Don't worry, she wasn't going all Britney Spears on us - her shaved head was actually for her role as Nebula in Guardians Of The Galaxy, Marvel's smash hit superhero blockbuster which was released earlier this summer. Not content with being associated with just one cult franchise, Karen set out about leaving her mark on another this year and, while she is obviously no stranger to the worlds of science fiction, this particular foray into fantasy really required her to go that extra mile. Not only did she sacrifice her luscious locks for the part (although producers did make her wig out of her own hair which, you know, is handy), the role was also incredibly psychically demanding - each morning she spent 4 hours in the make up chair being transformed into the alien supervillain. The hard work definitely paid off, though, and with the door left open for a rumoured bigger return in the sequel, it looks like the future is looking very bright for this Marvel mercenary. Bright blue, you might say! Guardians Of The Galaxy is now available on DVD and Blu-ray.
