To make the top entry on this list the suggestion had to be unique to series eight. Many things are rightfully important to making any good series of Doctor Who, but this series in particular should be defined by Clara's departure. It is a risky statement to make given that her farewell is not confirmed for series eight, but there is no better way to cap off a great year than to shake things up again. Companion departures have become like regeneration, major markers of the programme's journey. From the First Doctor's beautiful goodbye speech to Susan to the much debated heartbreaks of the Modern Who era, a companion's farewell is forever etched in the collective memory of the fandom. Amy and Rory's send off made brilliant use of the Weeping Angels, but without a monster of Clara's own, a new strategy will be necessary. Clara is a particularly unique challenge due to her echoesthe Clara copies scattered throughout space and timeand seeing that tackled will be very interesting. Moffat and crew could choose to continue with nods to Classic Who and give Clara a more quiet farewell. Send her heading off to live a life she has never really had, free from responsibility for the Doctor. However, it would be better and far fairer to her character, to see her go out with some sort of bang. It will be difficult to top becoming a galactic queen, suffering a complete mind wipe, or receiving one's own human doctor, but finding a positively brilliant goodbye of Clara's own will complete series eight in a way that nothing else possibly could.
