Doctor Who: 10 Times The Doctor Shouldn't Have Bothered With Mercy
5. Evolution Of The Merciful
Here they are again, the Daleks! This time, in the relaunched series. In Series Three, David Tennant's Tenth Doctor faced his greatest enemy once more in New York. The Cult of Skaro, the last remaining Daleks, are attempting to create their first race of Human Daleks with the help of a thunder strike to on the, nearly built, Empire State Building. The Doctor thwarts this plan by taking the shock himself, fusing the human shells with Time Lord DNA. This new race of Time Lords take the fight to the Daleks, defeating the two in the theatre. One Dalek remained back in the underground base, Dalek Caan. Angry at the new race he helped create, Caan commits genocide by killing them all, to the disgust of The Doctor. However, The Doctor agrees to show some mercy towards the last remaining Dalek in existence. He offers to help Caan saying, "he is probably the only person in the universe that would show him some compassion". This act allows Caan the time to get away using the emergency temporal shift. The act leaves The Doctor frustrated, allowing the last of his enemies to get away once more. Acting without mercy would have stopped Caan getting away, but does the Doctor take this opportunity? Like hell he does.
