Doctor Who: 11 Things We'll Miss About The Eleventh Doctor

9. Facial Expressions

Eleven Facial Maybe it's just me, but I've often thought that Matt Smith has been one of the more expressive Doctors. Don't get me wrong, each Doctor has expressed different types of emotion very well, whether it was the Fourth Doctor and his enthusiasm, the Eighth Doctor and his empathy, or the Ninth Doctor and his survivor's guilt. When it comes to the Eleventh Doctor, however, I always found that Matt Smith has always been able to express even the most subtlest of emotions and feelings quite...brilliantly, as Ten might say. Whether it's natural talent or learning over time, Matt's expressions are one of the highlights of the show. It's not just the basic emotions that he's good at, like expressing happiness or sadness. It's the more subtle or complicated emotions that he's able to express perfectly. Whether it was showing excitement at having discovered River Song's identity in A Good Man Goes to War or his overwhelming grief over losing Amy and Rory in The Angels Take Manhattan. Even when it called for something as simple at discovering a type of food that he liked or reading a letter from a lost friend, Matt Smith was always able to communicate what he was feeling through his expressions. It's hard enough for an actor to memorize lines and get into character, but to be able to express that character without words is the sign of a great actor, which Smith most certainly is.
