We will always have a soft spot in our hearts for these kinds of alternate timeline stories. What would happen if you made one simple decision differently? How would the world be changed? In the case of Donna in Turn Left, the results are catastrophic. It's clear that a lot of thought went into this story, with all the ripples from this decision far-reaching and nuanced. Turn Left doesn't shy away from the darker implications of these changes, either. With the world in danger, we see societies become insular and increasingly less tolerant of perceived outsiders. There's a chilling shift in Britain towards the kind of fascism that allowed Nazi Germany to thrive. Turn Left is basically one big reminder of what has become Doctor Who's mission statement: the idea that any everyday person can be clever and brave and incredibly important to the world.
