Doctor Who: 5 Reasons Why The Return Of Gallifrey Is A Great Idea

2. The Doctor Can Be Saved

Peter Capaldi In a recent interview Moffat clarified that the current Doctor already used all his regenerations, and that once he dies he'll stay dead. We've seen a few hints of this in previous episodes (remember that attempt at a regeneration during the events at Lake Siencio was just a Teselecta, and when the Doctor was shot by a Dalek in The Big Bang he didn't regenerate) but right now it's official that The Doctor will most likely die during the Christmas special. However, the Time Lords are a very resourceful race. After all, they've resurrected the Master and helped him on more than one occasion, so I'm pretty sure that if the Doctor encountered his death in Trenzalore at one point during the series the Time Lords would have one trick up their sleeve that could bring him back to life. Even if it means releasing the Doctor's darker side, that's a bullet they going to have to take €“ they're going to have to continue this series somehow, so by hook or by crook, the Doctor's getting more regenerations. On a different note, I've always felt quite sad about the Doctor's situation regarding his place in the Universe. He didn't really have a home and despite how much his companions helped him he was alone for most of the time. I think that this could create a big change in the Doctor's personality, and that it could give him a chance to be the man he always wanted to be. After all, he deserves it.
