Doctor Who: 50 Unanswered Questions

The Eleventh Doctor

5. What Happened To The Cybus Cybermen?

Cybermen The Cybermen of "Pete's World" replaced the original series Cybermen without missing a beat, and for the Russell T. Davis era "Cybus Cybermen" were the only Cybermen. For the uninitiated, these Cybermen stomping about bellowing "DELETE" at the top of whatever Cybermen have for lungs were no different from the Cybermen faced by the first 9 Doctors. But then Steven Moffat took over and in interview about "The Pandorica Opens," he confirmed that the metal monsters in that adventure were the original Cybermen from Mondas. They didn't have enough in the budget to remove the Cybus logo, but since then it no longer appears on the Cybermen. Plus, it appears that the originals are not only back, but have totally phased out the newer models. So where are the Cybus Cybermen? One possible answer is that the Mondas Cybermen simply assimilated the Cybus ones and went about their business. Another answer is that they managed to find their way back to the alternate universe from which they originated and are wreaking havoc with only Rose Tyler and the meta-crisis Doctor to stand in their way.
