7. We Wouldn't Like: Too Many Self-References
Okay, so we get that this is the 50th Anniversary episode. It's inevitable that there will be a hell of a lot of nods to the past, especially what with bringing David Tennant back. However, the last thing we want to see is 75 minutes of in-jokes and obscure references. Even though I'm one of those people who would probably enjoy that (i.e. a total geek) one of the reasons for Doctor Who's lasting appeal is that viewers don't need to have seen and remember every single episode to enjoy it. The reason why the new series have been so popular is that it appealed to those who had grown up with the old Doctors as well as a whole new generation of people who soon came to call themselves Whovians. So, to paraphrase Moffat, what I'd like to see with this 50th Anniversary episode is things that lay the ground work for the next 50 years well thought out plots that make you go, 'Oh yeah, we can work with that.'
