The hands of the Doctor's clock will soon meet at twelve, and the Raggedy Madman in a box's time will come to the end. Matt Smith has been the embodiment of Doctor Who since 2010. A young Doctor that's connected to kids as well as adults, he's been such a fantastic ambassador for the show, as well as helping to steer the TARDIS safely into its fiftieth year. But more than just being "the young Doctor", Matt Smith is the underdog's Doctor. He was the one that had to replace the endlessly popular David Tennant, and when he plummeted to Amelia Pond's back garden screaming "Geronimo", it seemed like he had the hardest task in all of time and space. Matt's has been a Doctor full of boyish energy though, enigmatic darkness and downright hilarity, donned always with that classic bow tie and armed with his brilliant wit. Just before he hands over the TARDIS keys to Peter Capaldi, let's celebrate his tenure, and look back on every single episode of the Matt Smith era. Bow ties were never cooler.

"Amazing though, don't you think? The Star Whale. All that pain and misery and loneliness, and it just made it kind. Very old and very kind, and the very, very last. Sound a bit familiar?" On her first trip into outer space, Amy saves a star whale, and shows the Doctor how badly he needs a companion. Matt Smith settles into the role slightly more, meets future queen Liz Ten and battles the creepy Smilers.

"Embrace it. That means you're alive. They cannot explode that bomb because you're a human being. You are flesh and blood. They cannot explode that bomb. Believe it. You are Professor Edwin Bracewell, and you, my friend, are a human being." The Daleks return, ready to take over the universe again. Winston Churchill is on hand to help Amy and the Doctor, but the new Paradigm Daleks escape across the stars.
