Doctor Who: Exploring The Many Doctors That Weren't

The Shalka Doctor - Richard E. Grant (2003)

194px Shalka Doctor Full This is the one and only Doctor on this list who was intended to be canonical. This Doctor appeared only once, in "Scream of the Shalka", a BBC animated webseries written by Paul Cornell. He was voiced by Richard E. Grant, and was supposed to be the "new" Doctor. He was to go on to appear in novels, comics, more webseries and the like. Alas, not long after this story was made, news broke that a new TV series was in development. Russell T. Davies announced that the Eccleston Doctor would be the Ninth Doctor and that was the end of the Shalka Doctor. I've been watching the DVD of "Scream of the Shalka" recently, and to be honest, I find it rather hard going. I've had it for two weeks and I've managed to watch two of the roughly 12 minute episodes. It isn't bad, but it certainly isn't anything special, and I kind of have to agree with Davies, who found Grant's performance rather uninspiring. That said, like with all Doctor Who stuff, if you're a true fan, you should see it at least once. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jV7Vwqy-vb0
