Doctor Who: Six Reasons To Revive The 6th And 7th Doctors
6. The Online Minisode Format Favours It
One of the things that has most defined New Who, and particularly the Steven Moffat era, has been the prodigious use of the Internet to enhance the story. Whilst 'Time Crash' was broadcast on BBC One as part of the 2007 Children in Need telethon, the short has had nearly 300,000 views on YouTube at time of writing. The BBC has yet to divulge how many times 'Night of the Doctor' was viewed on iPlayer upon original release, but the YouTube version has had well over 4 million. Both stories, written by Steven Moffat, were limited to around seven to eight minutes yet are considered some of the best moments New Who. Having the minisodes limited this way ensures an inexpensive, tightly-written story that's too fast-paced to become an excuse for itself. A Six or Seven minisode would be a fun burst of Eighties cheese and Doctor-isms that need not try and shoehorn itself into continuity or tell some grand epic in the time it takes to make a cup of tea. Just give us the Doctor, being heroic or daft or both, to show younger fans that there's more to the show's history than a long scarf and celery.
