9. The Possibility Of Losing Clara

Let€™s be honest €“ being one of the Doctor€™s companions has historically been a game for a single person. The long hours, the frequent death trap scenarios, the unfortunate side effect of companions falling madly in love with our hero€ they don€™t all immediately shout FAMILY, do they? Clara€™s had her best innings already. She€™s been the Impossible Girl, with all that that entails. She€™s prevented the Doctor€™s destruction of his own race. There€™s not much left for the woman to do as a companion. The addition of a romantic foil for her that€™s already been predestined to be a long-term thing, with children and everything, may well seal her goodbye as a companion for the show as it carries on through into the ninth season. Let€™s admit it€ the eight season could be Clara€™s swan song. She€™s done enough. Let€™s leave her to live her own life, and have our new, strange and frightening Doctor find a new, odd and unusual companion to join him on his.
