Doctor Who 1.2 Retrospective Review - "The End of the World"

Peripheral Characters (Alien Yet Not)jabe Here we have Jabe and Cassandra and the Adherents of the Repeated Meme. 5 billion years in the future, the trees are sentient, Paschal's brains in vats theory is almost true when connected to a skin flap or percolating in a giant mobile tank and there are, as we always knew there would be, robots running around. We even get to meet the Face of Boe. I still think that Jack Harkness is the Face of Boe and you can see it in the mouth shape. But I'm getting episodes ahead of myself. The aliens come in all shapes and sizes. There are the humanoid blue ones, the ones that look like a combination of Squidworth and Jabba the Hutt, the midget Ents and even the bird-people. But there are some things that are universal. They have plumbers and unconvincing flight attendants and the IT department. There is even someone announcing that the white Honda in the parking lot has its lights on and valet parking attendants. They all are subjected to some revisionist Earth facts. Cassandra offers classical music on an iPod and instead of hearing "Ride of the Valkyries" on an iPod Nano 4967023rd Generation, we hear "Tainted Love" on a jukebox. Ostriches take on dragonesque proportions. With Jabe, we start the trend of people who die for the Doctor. Or let me rephrase that. The Doctor surrounds himself with everyday heroes who sometimes do not come out of the experience alive. I liked Jabe for her curiosity and her compassion.

That's Kaki pronounced like the pants, thank you very much, my family nickname and writing name. I am a Red Sox-loving, Doctor Who-quoting, Shaara-reading walking string quartet of a Mormon writer from Boston. I currently work 40 hours at a stressful desk job with a salary that lets me pick up and travel to places like Ireland or Philadelphia. I have no husband or kids, but I have five nephews to keep me entertained. When not writing, working or eating too much Indian food, I'm always looking for something new to learn, whether it's French or family history.
