Despite his modest, unassuming appearance and demeanour, the Doctor is one of the most formidable individuals in the whole of fiction. To dare to oppose him is admirable in itself but, in order to add some substance to that bravery, any given foe has to be able to follow it up with actions. A lot of villains in fiction like to talk themselves up and their arrogance is often their downfall. Countless villains from various sources, if they encountered the good Doctor, would fancy their chances of defeating him. Very few would actually succeed. The Doctor has defeated formidable enemies such as the Daleks and the Cybermen - powerful enemies indeed - whilst he has also overcome the likes of the Master via the employment of his incredible intellect, which shows a versatility on his part and the uncanny ability to conquer a very wide variety of opponents.
