Doctor Who: 10 Best Companion Performances In NuWho
7. Arthur Darvill (Rory) - A Good Man Goes To War
Rory has a reputation for being an absolute badass. That is rarely on display more than in the mid-series 'finale' of Series 6, A Good Man Goes To War, in which he reprises his role as the Last Centurion and marches up to a fleet of Cybermen before heading to Demon's Run to rescue Amy from the evil Madame Kovarian.
Of course, that scene in which he marches into the headquaters of the Twelfth Cybe Legion could have failed utterly if played badly. But Darvill just dominates the room, broadcasting an air of ruthless toughness. It makes it very easy for the audience to see him as this character with the ability to be a fierce warrior.
Later in the episode, fans get to see more aspects of Rory. There's a brilliant moment after he first arrives on Demon's Run, where the characer sees his baby daughter for the first time. The way his emotions overcome him feels poignant and real, and his delivery of his line saying that he was planning not to cry makes him an even more lovable character.
In fact, the performance encapsulates what so many fans love about Rory Williams. And for that, it gains a place on this list.
