3. The Doctor's Wife
There are people who believe that the Doctor should never be in a sexual or romantic relationship. I would not go so far as to say that, but I do believe that he has more chemistry with his TARDIS in this one episode than he's had with any companion he's ever had in the entire fifty year history of the show. I ship Doctor/TARDIS. There, I said it. Thank you, Neil Gaiman and whoever decided that you should write for this show. It's everything I want out of life and more. It's to the credit of the fantastic writing that I can immediately buy Suranne Jones as the human incarnation of the TARDIS, something that until now had only been vaguely defined as quasi-sentient. But when you give her human form, they've suddenly got this immense history, this incredibly personal relationship that's just been under our noses for the past fifty years. It's genius. With the introduction of new ideas to the Time Lord mythos and the revisiting of old control rooms, this oddly feels more like a love letter to the show than any of the anniversary specials have.
