Doctor Who: 10 Best Episodes Of The Last 10 Years
3. Blink (2007)
Widely regarded as one of best episodes of Doctor Who ever written, Blink was a drastic departure from the usual episode formula. It focused less on the Doctor himself and more on Sally Sparrow, a human woman who was swept up in the mystery of an old abandoned house known as Wester Drumlins. Initially intrigued by stories of all of the people who have disappeared while visiting Wester Drumlins, Sally's interest became personal after her friend Kathy also disappeared while at the house. Sally's determination to learn the truth behind Kathy's disappearance led her and Kathy's brother Larry to the Doctor, who, through a pre-recorded conversation, told them the full story... and warned them how dangerous it was to blink.
The limited presence of the Doctor and Martha was unusual for an episode, but here it worked quite well. By focusing more on Sally and Larry, two very ordinary people, the episode gave us an interesting glimpse into how the lives of people who encountered the Doctor changed without directly interacting with him. The most memorable part of this episode, though, was the introduction of the Weeping Angels. Easily one of the most terrifying villains the show had ever seen, the Weeping Angels took an ordinary object and demonstrated how something so ordinary could be so dangerous.
