Doctor Who: 10 Best Historical Figures Who Have Appeared In Nu-Who

4. Rosa Parks

Doctor Who Vincent Van Gogh
BBC

Played by Vinette Robinson.

Series Eleven’s episode Rosa explored a different side to The Doctor’s moral compass. Of course, it didn’t come without hardship and heart break but it was definitely a poignant predicament to portray.

So often we see The Doctor helping historical figures to overcome some sort of obstacle or alien anomaly in their timeline, but in this instance the obstacle is entirely human yet absolutely vital to the progression of humanity. What begins as simply an effort to stop the time travelling criminal Krasko from preventing the Montgomery Bus Boycott, leads to The Doctor, Yaz, Graham and Ryan becoming an integral part of Rosa Parks’ story.

The moment the TARDIS gang are forced to remain seated on the bus in order to ensure that Rosa Parks gets arrested is one of those rare occasions where The Doctor is forced to allow, or even cause, something terrible to happen in order to maintain the future.

We have seen this moral questioning appear before in episodes such as The Fires of Pompeii and even in The Waters of Mars, moments when The Doctor must adhere to the laws of a “fixed point in time” as justification for their inability to help.
