1. The Pandorica Opens
Another Moffat episode? What can I say, the guy's full of trailer bait. But this one really is brilliant. As with 'Amy's Choice', it's the intrigue set up around the story arc of the series that makes this one exciting. The difference this time however, is that it's the lead up to the finale, and we knew that something big was coming. The first half of the trailer isn't much more than a collection of clips from previous episodes in the series, reminding us about the various threads involved in the 'Cracks in time' arc. It leads us to believe that this is all we're going to get. A nice reminder of the story to build up a little tension, but without showing us too much. That would have been fair enough, but then, after the clips from previous episodes are over we got absolutley loads of stuff from the next episode. The trailer really makes the episode look like a busy one showing us bits that take place in a number of different locations throughout the episode. It really teases us with all sorts while never giving the game away. That Cyberman in particular was a major source of creepy and in many ways was the Cybermen's best recent appearence (Still not 100% sure on Nightmare in Silver), and the trailer hints at it perfectly because at the time we really didn't know if the Cybermen would play a big part in the episode or not. The Pandorica itself is teased brilliantly. While previous series finales had relied on the return of a classic bad guy as their selling point, Moffat had managed so successfully to craft an intriguing story arc, that the selling point here wasn't a big bad guy, or even a particularly notable threat. It was a box. And this trailer did a really good job of making me want to find out what this box really was. Of course, there's no chance that everyone's going to agree with this list. I know a lot of the episodes here are 'Event' episodes, and that in many ways I've ignored some of the smaller perhaps more intriguing stories, but with a show like Doctor Who there are so many different criteria you can use to judge these things by. Personally I'm a sucker for a big Universe shattering tease. But i'd be really interested to see which 'Next Time' trailers other people have enjoyed
