Doctor Who: 10 Biggest Missed Opportunities Of Series 8

8. No Special Weapons Dalek In Into The Dalek

Any war requires heavy artillery and the Daleks have their own share of this, as seen in 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, in the form of the Special Weapons Dalek. This Dalek has been shown in 'Asylum of the Daleks' and it would have made up for their mistreatment there to see them in action again with the budget of the new series.

While the practical effects in that story were excellent, it would have been wonderful to see them directed by Ben Wheatley, director of the battle heavy 'A Field in England'. The model is clearly in the warehouse so it can be wheeled out of retirement any time. Many fans would happily build one at their own time and expense to see it blast the TARDIS across the room and through the hull out into space. After all, that's what Doctor Who is all about, isn't it?

However, it could have been given a starring role. In the extended universe novels, the Special Weapons Dalek was more insane and sadistic than any regular Daleksever could be. Couldn't the episode have revolved around going into THIS Dalek? Obviously not.
