8. Snarkiness
Despite the critiques inherit in my last suggestion, I have not forgotten Doctor Who needs to be comical. And while all elements of comedy are play in Doctor Who no matter what kind of Doctor is in the TARDISincluding good natured chuckles at what was accomplished with much lower production budgetsI would prefer to see the long-running gags and slapstick of the previous era toned down in favour of adding more snark. Part of this choice is pure personal indulgence, witty banter and verbal barbs are my favourite forms of humour. Snark also fits in well with the wordsmith, intellectual profile I am envisioning for the Twelfth Doctora good set of quips seems natural for someone with a larger vocabulary. But mainly I recommend snark because of Peter Capaldi himself. Biting humour is at play throughout many of his characters and he demonstrates a wit of his own during interviews. And I cannot be the only one who saw Capaldi promotional photo and immediately thought;
Humour is of particular concern when thinking about the Twelfth Doctor, given the effectiveness of Smith's physicality during this previous incarnation, but capitalising on Capaldi's comedic strength will ensure this new Doctor is equally endearing. But a sense of humour is not the only thing every Doctor needs.
