Doctor Who: 10 Characters Who Should Return For The 60th Anniversary (And Beyond)
3. Martha Jones
If there's one character who has to be involved in the new, revamped version of UNIT, it's Martha Jones.
Though Martha struggled to fill that Rose-shaped hole in the Tenth Doctor's hearts, she grew into way more than that throughout Series 3, and beyond. She appeared in Series 4 as a leading UNIT employee, helping take on the Sontarans and later threatening to blow up the entire world to halt the Daleks' reality bomb.
Freema Agyeman hasn't appeared in Doctor Who since The End of Time in 2010. 13 years is a long time for a former main companion to be away, so it's about time she got back in the game.
With rumours swirling of a UNIT-based spinoff, Agyeman would be a great choice to lead that show alongside Jemma Redgrave's Kate Lethbridge-Stewart, and perhaps Eve Myles' Gwen Cooper too.
The 60th anniversary specials would serve as an ideal launchpad for this new series, which means that Martha simply has to make an appearance. Even without a UNIT spinoff, it would make sense for Martha to appear given how prominently UNIT is featured in the 60th anniversary trailers!
It would be a delight to see Agyeman alongside Tennant one last time, and you just know that she'd get along incredibly well with Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor too.
