1. Arabella Weir
Did you know there had already been a female Doctor? Yes, it already happened back in 2003, during the Great Hiatus. Big Finish, the production company responsible for the truly vast range of Doctor Who audio adventures, released the serial Exile as part of their Doctor Who Unbound series. The Unbound dramas are a collection of "What If...?" questions. This time, What If The Doctor Was a Woman? The method by which Arabella Weir's Doctor becomes female is a bit unsettling. The Doctor commits suicide and as a result changes to a different gender upon regeneration. Having done this, she then lives a mundane existence on Earth, working in a supermarket and getting drunk every night. Stranger things have happened. Arabella's career has a distinctly comedic slant to it having appeared in The Fast Show and Posh Nosh. Working mostly as a writer, she has written for The Independent and the Guardian and she also appeared in the 2011 Doctor Who Christmas special The Doctor The Widow and the Wardrobe. So, if anyone were to be given the role, she'd probably be the first to get the call. She's got the experience, she's got the talent. What are you waiting for, BBC?
