Doctor Who: 10 Huge Mistakes Made By Characters In The Show

1. Madam Kovarian - The Eleventh Hour - Time Of The Doctor

You find yourself faced with a terrible decision. Your ally has the chance to bring back his people from a bubble universe but that action may ignite another Time War even worse than the last. Do you try and guide him on to a different path? Or do you travel back along his timeline to stop him even getting to that point? For Madam Kovarian, a member of the Order of the Silence, she did the latter. She formed a renegade group and journeyed back into the past to try and stop the Eleventh Doctor from reaching Trenzalore and freeing Gallifrey. Unfortunately her group's actions had horrific consequences and ultimately led the Doctor on the path she was trying to stop him from reaching. Let's take a look at those actions. Travelled back into the Eleventh Doctor's past and forged an alliance of enemies to trap the Doctor in the Pandorica. Accidentally wiped out all life in the universe except Earth. MISTAKE NUMBER 1. Blew up the Tardis in an effort to destroy the Doctor. Caused the rips in time and space that allowed Gallifrey to eventually send a message to the Doctor. MISTAKE NUMBER 2. Captured a pregnant Amy, replacing her with a flesh copy. Stole Amy's daughter Melody Pond and genetically modified her into an assassin in 1969. Lost Melody Pond but found her again when she was River Song, stuck her in a space suit and forced her to 'assassinate' the Doctor. River Song fell in love with the Doctor - her actions caused all time and space to unravel. Got herself killed by an alternate Amy seeking revenge for the loss of her daughter. MISTAKE NUMBER 3. By trying to trap / blow up / assassinate the Doctor, Madam Kovarian and the order of the Silence gave the Doctor all the clues he needed to find his way to Trenzalore and reconnect with the Timelords. Had she done absolutely nothing, the chances are everything she sought to prevent would never have happened! As the show enters its next 50 years, we'll be intrigued to see what new adventures occur and what mistakes the villains, the companions and even the Doctor himself makes. It's what makes the story telling so great. All characters are flawed and all actions have consequences; some - in the case of Madam Kovarian - bigger than others. Do you agree with the choices presented? Are there other more worthy examples you think should be considered? Have we been too harsh on some of the characters in this article?
