Doctor Who: 10 "Loose End" Characters We Want Tied Up

4. Liz 10

Why? Her story allows for her to meet the Doctor again in new places, so things could be fresh and yet familiar. Why Not? Well, she's basically the same archetype as River, and we know who wins that coin toss. I made a joke in another article that boils down to this - If you need to see the good bits of "Fear Her", it goes like this - Skip the pre credits, watch the theme, catch the opening gag with the TARDIS, and then cut to the "Next Time" trailer. Sorted! In many ways, it's ALMOST the same for "The Beast Below". The best bit is the precredit trailer (Ominous stuff!) and then.....well, there's a whale. In space. Yeah. The difference is that then you'd miss out on Liz 10. Liz 10 is River Song without trying so hard. A strong, gritty female character. Liz got motivation and development that River couldn't though (due to her "mystery") - She was the queen of England. Liz 10 was ACTUALLY Elizabeth the Xth. And wear that crown she did. Armed to the teeth. Without a need to overstate her importance and no need to (over)assert her as an IMPORTANT character in this show, Liz gets charming, fresh development that makes it clear she's far deadlier than any grandstanding archaeologist - It speaks volumes that SHE gets the drop on River in "The Pandorica Opens" - And River looks like she needs to change her pants as a result.
Liz 10 led her people to a New Britain from a scorched Earth... So a future run-in with the Doctor wouldn't be a retread, and clearly she was created to return (as she did in "Pandorica") - It'd be a shame to let such a strong character capable of filling out a story's narrative languish in Series 5's runt tale. Wherever New Britain ended up, she could be there, and whatever threat was there she easily could deal with it. The Doctor clearly is aware of Liz 10, and she of him - There's some tantalizing possiblities that could be filled in in his past or her future (or a timey-wimey vice versa). And if the Doctor can bloody well drop in on Danny Boy from "Victory of the Daleks" again, than Liz must merit a followup? "The Beast Below" had this one redeeming quality in Liz 10 - surely she has more to her story than that? Likelihood of seeing her again: 5/10

In a parallel universe where game shows' final jackpots and consequent fortunes depend on knowledge of obscure music trivia and Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker Doctor Who episodes, I've probably gone rich, insane, and am now a powermad despot. But happily we're not there, so I'm actually rather pleasant. Really.
