8. The Daleks Master Plan
Early stories in Doctor Who spanned six or seven episodes easily. The three Dalek stories to date had all followed this format. Sometimes this worked
(The Dalek Invasion Of Earth) and sometimes this didnt (The long and often ridiculous
The Chase). But in series three, with the Daleks as popular as ever, Doctor Who came up with the ambitious, epic,
The Daleks Master Plan. Spanning twelve episodes with its own prequel episode,
Mission To The Unknown, only episodes two, five and 10 remain. The prequel episode too no longer exists. Reading about this epic adventure, a return of all the missing episodes will allow audiences to experience some truly magical moments. The first ever death of a companion Katarina is blown out of an airlock. The first Christmas episode, The Feast Of Steven, in which the Doctor himself breaks the fourth wall to address the audience and wish them a happy Christmas. The first appearance of the iconic Nicholas Courtney as the villainous time agent Bret Vyon. The return of the renegade time lord The Meddling Monk. The tragic death of the second new companion Sara Kingdom, horribly aged by the Dalek weapon, the Time Destructor. Crossing a jungle world, an ice world, a volcano planet, Ancient Egypt and a return to 1960s England, there is a sweeping scale to this story that has the Daleks at their most menacing. This is a tale not to be missed.
