Doctor Who: 10 (More) Actors Who Could Replace Jenna Coleman

6. Finn Cole

Why he should be: Newcomer Finn Cole was one of the standout parts of the most recent series of Peaky Blinders, sharing a subplot with Helen McCrory as her character€™s son before managing to make that aspect of the series his own. He was a standout performer which isn€™t easy in a show that can boast actors of the calibre of McCrory, Cillian Murphy, Sam Neill and Tom freaking Hardy. That suggests he€™ll be able to stand out in another show in a supporting role even next to an actor as good as Peter Capaldi. He played stubborn, strong-headed and clever on Peaky Blinders, all of which would create an interesting dynamic with Capaldi€™s Doctor who can also be stubborn, strong-headed and clever and hasn€™t really gotten on that much with similar characters. While this might create issues for plausibility as it€™s unlikely the Doctor would take along anyone he really didn€™t get on with, there are ways to write around that and there could be a really captivating and interesting central relationship added to the show as a result. Why he shouldn€™t be: He€™s only ever actually been in one thing on screen, according to IMDb, which is Peaky Blinders. While he was good in that, he€™s still a bit of an unknown entity in terms of just how good an actor he actually is. There€™s no way to tell yet if he€™ll be memorable in a lead role, or even what his range is, or ultimately how deep he can go with a character. While this doesn€™t put an insurmountable barrier in front of his potential casting, it does mean that he€™s more of a gamble. It was also hinted during the second series of Peaky Blinders that they€™re building up Cole€™s character for the future so he€™s likely to be busy with that. Even if that didn€™t stop him being cast, the BBC would be nervous about poaching actors from their own shows to fill the Who cast after casting Capaldi as the Doctor caused problems for the creative team behind The Musketeers.
