2: "Have A Good Life. Do That For Me. Have A Fantastic Life"
I'll freely admit it - Christopher Eccleston's Doctor is my favorite of the new series by a country mile. I think if he'd stayed another year or two we would all be in agreement on that point. But that's neither here nor the for the moment. What remains incontrovertible is that the final hologram message that he leaves for Rose is just about the most perfectly expressed definition of what it means to love someone that I have ever seen. Particularly in light of the brilliant way it's staged. Enter Rose onto the TARDIS console room. A hologram with scratchy soundtrack of the Doctor startw addressing her where you might expect her to be standing by the doors. She quickly moves to stand out of his 'line of sight' and he carries on addressing the space where she should be- a flawed recording. He keeps this up for the entirety explaining of the logistics of what she needs to do. Only at the end, after he's told her all she needs to know, the recording turns to exactly where she actually is standing and the sound snaps into focus. And he tell her what he needs to say for himself. He knew all the time what her reaction would be and where she would hide. And he gave her that because he knew she needed to feel in control. And only for the last, most important moment, he addressed her directly. Do that for me. Have a fantastic life.
