Doctor Who: 10 Most Shocking Moments

5. The First Cybermen

In the First Doctor era, the Cybermen made their first appearance in Hartnell's last episode, The Tenth Planet. The Cybermen are shown quite differently here compared to those throughout the eighties, and the most recent versions. They came from Mondas, the twin planet of Earth, and would later populate Telos. These Cybermen were just starting to transition into what they are usually thought of now. At this point, they had very robotic, slow-speaking voices with a high wheezing sound to it, massive equipment on their abdomen, and the best part of all, they still had human hands. There is a Big Finish audio, Spare Parts, featuring the Fifth Doctor and Nyssa in which they arrive at Mondas before the beginning of the Cybermen. It basically builds up how the Cybermen all began. The first Cybermen were included on this list simply because they are terrifying. Unlike today's Cybermen, where all their humanoid features are almost gone, in these, you can still see their humanoid shape. Their faces are very frightening as well. For the time the Tenth Planet was made, the Cybermen were at their best. I, for one, still like these compared to the clunky Cybus Cybermen.
