Doctor Who: 10 Problems With Revolution Of The Daleks

7. Jack's Disappointing Departure

Where Jack was crucial to saving the Doctor and destroying the Dalek saucer, his departure from the episode seemingly wasn't.

Via a phone conversation, we overhear Jack telling the Doctor that he's left. Explaining that he's gone to see fellow Torchwood alum Gwen Cooper for a while, Jack is quickly and quietly written out of the episode with no denouement whatsoever. After his strong presence in the episode, his ending seemed to be rushed and forgotten.

Looking back to 2007's Last of the Time Lords where we were treated to an important closing scene where Jack hinted at being the Face of Boe, Jack's ending in Revolution was a letdown.

A proper on-screen departure could have set up a new series of Torchwood properly, or at least given us a memorable moment where the Doctor and Jack reflect on their adventures together. Even a final goodbye to Yaz should have been in order after their heartfelt moment in Osaka, but this episode robbed our favourite Time Agent was robbed of a decent exit.

With David Tennant returning as the Tenth Doctor in a new Big Finish Torchwood Audio Adventure, we'll at least be able to look forward to some character development between the two old friends, something greatly missing in Revolution.
