9. He Captures The Alien-ness Of The Doctor More Than Any Of His Predecessors
The Eleventh Doctor is kind of odd. Odd in the way you would expect an alien that looks like a human would act if they were surrounded by other humans and trying to blend in. Tennants Doctor, as great as he was, fit in a little too easily. But Smiths Doctor really captured that alien vibe. Perhaps it was a step back for a character that had so aclimatised to human society, but I love his performance. The Lodger in his first series captured this perfectly with his attempts to become a flat mate to Craig Owens and later his ADHD overload as he moves in with the Ponds in The Power Of Three. The Eleventh Doctor is the best blend of someone trying to imitate what he has spent so long studying and not quite getting it right. His awkward romance with River Song. His lack of comprehension that Amy and Rory can just get up and leave their lives to travel with him at any moment. But mixed with a keen insight into what makes humanity a race worth saving. He gets things very right too, as any decent hero should. Also, is it just me or just Matt Smith look a bit like an alien pretending to be a human?
