Doctor Who: 10 Reasons The Eleventh Doctor Actually Sucks
2. He Talks Too Much
To be fair, this was a complaint the Doctor started to suffer from in his tenth incarnation but one that reached critical mass when Smith took over. it also contributes to why this Doctor lacks gravitas. He just never shuts up. Part of the great success of Capaldi's first year is that he is not in your face, jumping about and talking a mile a minute. Often the Eleventh Doctor comes across as some deranged children's entertainer or regional presenter at a Children in Need broadcast. He never stops making quips or adding observations. It's true that Matt possesses excellent comic timing but watching an episode of Smith's Doctor Who is rather like being stuck next to the office joker in a lift - it's fun for a minute but you wouldn't want the door to jam shut. He'd probably just use his screwdriver to open it, though. As his tenure progressed, writers started seeing him as a funny Doctor, giving him more and more dialogue. By the end, with Neil Gaiman having two Matt's talking to each other for most of Nightmare In Silver, it was obvious it was time for a change.
