3. The Hilarious (and outright silly) Dialogue
One of the greatest things about series one was the throw-away lines which contained subtle jokes and outrageously silly words. These could easily be missed, but - like a special features easter egg on a boxed set of DVDs - were made all the more enjoyable for it. A couple of favourites are Rose remarking that she didnt pass jiggery pokery because she failed in hullabaloo (from episode The End of the World), and the Doctor explaining (in The Empty Child) that mauve is the universal colour for danger - not to be confused with red, which actually means camp (Oh, those misunderstandingsall those Red Alerts, all that dancing.) The quick one liners brought lighthearted fun to Doctor Who, and gave a striking contrast between the cheery moments and the occasions of despair. We havent seen a lot of this recently, so it will be interesting to see if Capaldi brings any of this wonderful jovial nonsense back to Who.
