1. The Doctor - Doctor Who
Yes, I admit that this last entry is jumping the gun a little, but I would like to end by expressing my confidence in the BBC's choice. In this article, we have explored the humorous and human sides of the characters played by Peter Cabaldi, and I hope you have seen a few glimpses of what makes him an excellent choice. No Doctor escapes the requirement of gravitas. Each of the Doctors has been a response to the previous one. Matt Smith's vitalism seemed to be a taunt to the melancholy of David Tennant. David Tennant's rampant involvement seemed to set a contrast to Christopher Eccleston's tendency to show up in time to not prevent disasters. The Eleventh Doctor's interaction with Clara has been at times flirtatious and at times paternal. With the advent of a new and older Doctor, we will probably see a downturn in the number of companions who develop a crush on the mad man in a blue box. I can see him written in as an avuncular character and I think that he will perform the role admirably. He is also not beyond laughing at himself. He can be histrionic and hysterical and I am, of course, counting down the days 'til Christmas.
