Doctor Who: 10 Special Effects That Totally Sucked

3. The Creature From The Pit

You'd think poor producer Graham Williams would have learnt from The Power of Kroll that giant monsters aren't that easy to realise but, inexplicably, he allows David Fisher to script a story about a huge, blobby creature stuck down a hole. Said blob is Erato, a kindly ambassador, who has been lured down the pit by the nasty Lady Adastra. With a brief like this, the poor Special Effects Department were always going to struggle, but the result is still jaw-droppingly awful. It's as if someone asked Victor Frankenstein to create a giant balloon creature out of some white bin liners. However, it gets worse. Erato also possesses a 'probe', a large boner that wobbles about in front of him. Tom Baker seems particularly enamoured of Erato's schlong, even blowing down it at one stage. Seriously.
