Doctor Who: 10 Things That Make NO Sense In The Modern Series

3. The Werewolf's Inconsistent Allergy

Tooth and Claw is a fun action romp of an episode, one that you can watch without engaging your brain too much. But if you do start to think about it, you might spot this massive logic error that completely breaks the story's climax.

In the middle of the episode, the Doctor and Rose barricade themselves in a room in order to hide from the pointy fangs and sharp claws of a big hairy werewolf. The beastie can't enter this room because it's allergic to mistletoe, and the wooden walls have been varnished with mistletoe oil. So instead, it climbs onto the roof and smashes in through the glass ceiling. Smart doggie.

This forces the Doctor and Rose to run out of the room and into a corridor, closing the door behind them - and this is where things get odd. Since the wolf couldn't get into the room by using the door, it also shouldn't be able to get out of the room by using the door, because again, the entire place has been laced with mistletoe juice.

However, a few shots later, the werewolf has followed them out of the room and is in the corridor with them. Huh?

To make matters even more confusing, wolfie is stopped in its tracks by mistletoe broth seconds after magically escaping the room. So... is it allergic to mistletoe, or isn't it? The episode seems to change its mind depending on the situation, and it's pretty darn annoying when you pick up on this during a rewatch.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
