Doctor Who: 10 Things You Didn't Know About The Autons

1. Boris Johnson Is An Auton

That's right. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is a plastic facsimile controlled by the Nestene Consciousness. Perhaps that's why his hair doesn't look quite right.

This bizarre addition to the Doctor Who mythos originated in 2020's Revenge of the Nestene, a short story written by Russell T Davies as the sequel to 2005's Rose. The story, originally intended as the final chapter of his Rose Target novelisation, takes place directly after the events of the episode and the Autons' failed invasion.

Disguised as a clown following the destruction of the Nestene base and the London Eye above it, the Auton survivor crawls to Westminster to 'merge' with someone of power. Finding a certain blonde MP killed during the invasion, the Auton becomes him and vows to seek revenge on the Doctor - and the UK.

This implies that Boris' political career, at least in the Whoniverse, exists to create chaos in the UK - and torment everybody's favourite Time Lord.

This wasn't the first time the Autons impersonated people of power. 1970's Spearhead From Space also saw the Nestenes replacing diplomats, military generals and government officials in order to set their invasion plans in motion. The plot would be foiled by the Third Doctor, but perhaps some of these dodgy politicians stuck around to terrorise the planet in their own special way...
