Seriously! He was first introduced as Captain Jack alongside Christopher Eccleston's Ninth Doctor in Series 1 but imagine if it had been the other way around. John originally auditioned for the coveted part of the titular Time Lord himself but then someone obviously decided that he was far better suited to the role of a charming, omnisexual time travelling con mon instead. The rest, as they say, is history.
