4. He Invited His Closest Friends To Watch Him Die
Series 6 of NuWho saw an overarching plot revolving around a fixed-point in time where the Eleventh Doctor is murdered by an Astronaut before he can regenerate. However, it is later revealed in the series that this is in fact not The Doctor, but instead Teselecta posing as The Doctor. He did this to throw off the Silence and push Amy, Rory and Song into defeating the Silence.
While it was arguably necessary for the greater good, The Doctor utilised his own death to manipulate his companions into doing what needed to be done, which had a clear negative impact on the characters. Throughout Series 6, Amy can’t ignore the fact that, as far as she believes, her best friend was going to die and there is nothing she could do about it. When you really think about it, it must have been horrible for Amy, Rory, and River to have to carry this burden and believing there is nothing they can do to stop it.
