Doctor Who: 10 Ways An American Reboot Could Work

7. A Galaxy Of Guest Stars

johnny depp doctor who I admit a Ferrell or Stiller Doctor would be a bit much. But you could find a good guest role for them. Doctor Who has worked its way through all of Equity since it€™s returned€”and another sign of Who€™s flexibility is that there are roles for garlanded acting knights and pop stars (name another show that guest-starred Sir Derek Jacobi and Kylie Minogue in the same season?). And to Skaro with typecasting€”who would think David Walliams would be such a revelation playing space mole Gibbis in 2011€™s €œThe God Complex€? And as pretty much every actor in Britain has appeared by now (off the top of my head only Helen Mirren and David Jason are needed to score €œCharacter Actor Bingo€), it might be time to raid another country for the next Sharaz Jek, Davros or Miss Hartigan.

Hamish Crawford writes fiction more easily than fact. His first volume of short fiction, “A Madhouse, Only With More Elegant Jackets”, was published in 2011 from First Edition Publishing. He has an English degree from the University of Calgary and a Screenwriting M.A. from the University of Westminster, which leaves little space on the wall for his several PhD. rejection letters. His stories and articles have appeared in such publications as NoD and the Cult Britannia website (www.cultbritannia.co.uk). In September he will be speaking at a Doctor Who 50th anniversary conference in Hertfordsire. The owner of far more hats than heads, Hamish currently lives in Canada, and is disappointed that the preceding biography contains so few factual errors.
