Doctor Who: 10 Weirdest Moments From The Classic Series

5. Harry Sullivan Fights A Giant Clam

001giantclam I should go on record here - I'm not a huge fan of Genesis of the Daleks. I understand that that is fairly high level blasphemy these days, but there you have it. It just feels a little draggy to me. That said, I don't actively dislike it, and it certainly has enough to commend it that I can understand why people are fond of it. So believe me when I tell you that I get no joy out of pointing this one out. Davros has been described as having discarded the genetic mutants from earlier experiments into the tunnels. Fine, we can all see him doing that, but let's take a look at the implications here. Davros' end goal by that point was to find a way to ensure the future of his people. Step 1 of this plan - Make Giant Clams. What, one has to ask, was Step 2, exactly? Are the clams similar in some not-immediately obvious way - to the people of Kaled people? Will deliberately making them huge help you in some part of your study? No, Davros was clearly just screwing around. This is why we need review committees for military spending, people. Unregulated spending? That way lies the path to Giant Clams.
