5. Hugh Grant Is... The Ninth Doctor! (2003)
Before three actors auditioned for the role of the Ninth Doctor in the revived series, Russell T. Davies admits he approached Hugh Grant with an outright offer. Having already played the role in the 1999 Comic Relief charity special (written by a young Steven Moffat), the part was Grant's for real this time, if he wanted it. Except, he didn't. Later Grant expressed his regret, not realising how well the show would turn out. In turning the offer down flat, he forced Davies to look elsewhere.
